Redwood City is the oldest city on the San Francisco Peninsula and the San Mateo County Seat since 1856. The Redwood City center has enjoyed a period of revitalization starting in the early 2000s continuing to the present day. Redwood City has 82,881 residents and is steadily growing. Data from the 2010 census underscored the intense pressures on the housing supply. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.3% and the rental vacancy rate was 3.9%. Owners and renters are split fairly evenly (50.6% vs 49.4%).
